Professional training at OBT Chiro
SEAJA, a committed partner of the Cambodian NGO Organisation for Basic Training (OBT), plans to finance the complete reconstruction of an existing building in 2027. This building will be converted into a technical training center specializing in carpentry, apprenticeships, and bamboo work. The goal is to offer young people from the rural village combined access to secondary education and quality vocational training.
The building's objectives
This center will encourage the acquisition of practical skills, the development of local expertise, and the creation of handcrafted activities. It will also serve as a showcase for visitors, highlighting the material and offering the opportunity to create souvenirs. This space will enhance youth employability while supporting the region's economic resilience.
Local context and educational challenge
Rural areas, such as Tbong Khmum, suffer from a major lack of infrastructure dedicated to vocational training for young people.
Furthermore, carpentry and joinery skills using materials such as bamboo are being lost, although they constitute strategic know-how for the country, particularly for rural communities.
